This is the second time I have come across a case of a pet being stolen in broad daylight. Here's the story:

Help! Wookie, a male an/black Yorkshire Terrier was stolen on 18th Oct 2011 by 2 people in a light grey car at Jalan Mulia, Macpherson Garden Estate. Wookie weighs about 4kg. He has a bump on his forehead and is wearing a blue collar with our old UK details on it. He is micro chipped.

If you have any info on Wookie, please contact owner Paul. Reward of $200 for safe return.

Daisie, a female Shih Tzu went missing at Robertson Quay at 11th Sep 2011 at about 11am after she ran out of the house. According to eye witnesses, she was picked up by an Indian man (perhaps a construction worker but not in working clothes) at Robertson Quay.

Daisie's color is brown grey white. She is very friendly. Age 3. Size is 15 inches. She is microchipped. Fur is now longer than shown in the photo.

Lost Puppy : Silky Terrier at Mt. pleasant Rd. Singapore

Thomas found this puppy along Mt Pleasant Rd at 4.10pm today, 17th July 2011. Several cars in front of him stopped when they saw the puppy running along the road. Even he almost ran over it. Tried to send it to SPCA but it was closed.

You can reach Thomas at tel 9746-2500.

The puppy will be return to SPCA on 18th July (Monday) and if there is no one to claim it, it will probably be put to sleep. Please help to pass the word around to locate owner.

LOS ANGELES - HEATHER Lombardi paid nearly US$300 (S$371) to fly Snickers, an 11-week-old, 3-pound hairless kitten, from Utah to Connecticut in climate-controlled air cargo.
By the time kitten and owner united, Snickers was icy cold and couldn't move her head or paws, Ms Lombardi said. The kitten died a short time later.
'I feel so guilty. We sat there for nearly an hour. If I'd known, I would have thrown a fit,' said Ms Lombardi, who was flying Snickers home from a breeder. 'We just sat there. We had no idea she was dying.'
The Department of Transportation tracks animal deaths in transit, but no one keeps tabs on how many die of cold or heat in cargo holds or elsewhere, said veterinarian Louise Murray, vice-president of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital in New York City.
Heat deaths are more common, Ms Murray said, but because winter weather has been extreme this year, Murray is sure death rates have climbed. Lombardi's US$289.94 cargo ticket on Delta Air Lines included US$70 to make sure Snickers was taken off the plane quickly. But Ms Lombardi said it took 50 minutes to get the cat off the plane.
Delta Flight 738 to Hartford arrived at 8.40pm local time, when the National Weather Service said it was 10 deg C. Delta spokesman Susan C. Elliott said she couldn't talk about specifics because the cat's death was under investigation. -- AP

BERLIN (AP) — A dog in Germany has given birth to 17 puppies, leaving their owner thrilled but fatigued after having to feed them with a bottle for several weeks because their mother couldn't cope with the demand.

Owner Ramona Wegemann said Monday she barely slept for more than a couple of minutes without interruption during about four weeks in an "exhausting" struggle to make sure all of the purebred Rhodesian Ridgeback puppies would survive.

She said when she was "finished feeding the last puppy, the first was hungry again."

Wegemann's dog Etana gave birth to eight female and nine male puppies on Sept. 28 in Ebereschenhof, which is near Berlin.

At least five times a day, Wegemann gave the dogs a bottle with special milk because their mother's nipples could have never coped with the demand, and when the puppies were not hungry, they wanted to be entertained, she said.

Wegemann said when dogs give birth to so many puppies several of them die within the first week. "But all of our puppies survived. This is incredible and wonderful," the 32-year-old added.

It was the second time that Etana gave birth. She gave birth to eight puppies in her first pregnancy, not uncommon for the dog's breed, Wegemann said.

"The birth of the puppies was very special. All puppies were born naturally, no cesarean was necessary," she added. It took Etana a full 26 hours to give birth to all of the puppies — and Wegemann was as baffled as amazed.

But caring for 17 puppies turned out to be a full-time job: Wegemann put her work as an independent animal psychiatrist on a hold and her husband took as much vacation as he could.

Their lives have been turned upside down by the puppies, and their living room is now occupied by a giant box that houses the puppies.

But even Wegemann still struggles to recognize them: The females puppies are called Bahati, Binta, Bahya, Bashima, Batouuli, Binki, Bora, Bisa and the male ones are Baakir, Banjoku, Belay, Bruk, Bundu, Bayo, Bukekayo, Biton and Bulus.

Wegemann gave them all African names because the Rhodesian Ridgeback is an African hunting dog. Wegeman and her husband now plan to give most of the puppies away.

A price of ?800 ($1,050) per puppy would only cover the expenses for the veterinary, vaccinations, food and the mandatory paperwork, Wegemann said. She hopes to get about ?1,000 ($1,315) per dog, but said they would only give them to families with children, not breeders.

Four of the puppies have been sold, two more are already paid for and will leave their siblings shortly.

My name is WAPI! I was a happy three-year old Yorkshire Terrier, until my tongue was cut off by my groomers. On 28th Aug 2010.

I will have to live my future life, mutilated and mentally scarred.

My owners are emotionally distressed by my injury and have been running around trying to get my veterinary report (took one whole week), rushing home after work and waking up early to give me medication and trying to appeal to authorities to do something (pending investigation)!

The purpose of this page is to:

1) Publicise the gross negligence of a pet groomer which resulted in our dog's tongue being cut off while grooming and how consequently, my owners were only offered and compensated for the resulting medical costs ($66+ $51 = $117). This could happen to your dog too!

2) Generate enough public awareness, so that the proper authorities will step in and set up protocol and jurisdiction in the event of such atrocities. Can you imagine if a barber or hairdresser disfigured his client this seriously while shaving or cutting their hair? Would a mere apology and a trip to the doctor suffice?

3) Start a discussion and compile a checklist for dog lovers to take note of when sending their pets to groomers. To find out what can and should be done IF such a tragedy were to befall our beloved fur-kids. Also, which dog grooming companies to stay away from. Be informed!

SINGAPORE - A video of a woman beating her dog with a bunch of sticks has made animal-lovers in Singapore see red and many have rallied on forums, YouTube and Facebook, calling for the dog to be rescued and its owner punished.

Yesterday, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals told MediaCorp that its male owner had contacted the animal welfare group.

The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) also said it will launch an investigation and will not hesitate to take action against the owners if there is sufficient evidence of cruelty. If convicted of animal cruelty, the offender can be fined $10,000 and/or imprisoned for 12 months.

In an apparent attempt to discipline the beige-coloured canine for biting cushions, the woman in the video rains sharp blows to the head of the dog, which yelps and cowers in a corner.

A man is heard telling her to stop but she continues for another 11 seconds.

But some animal lovers told MediaCorp that the cruelty pales in comparison with the abuse inflicted at puppy mills and that the woman in the video was ignorant.

"Rather than vilify her, we should reach out and let her and the dog attend obedience-training sessions," said Mr Daryl Ng, an accountant.

Dog trainer and president of welfare group Action for Singapore Dogs, Mr Ricky Yeo, told MediaCorp that dogs develop certain habits from their formative years.

"Puppies chew because their gums are painful and itchy when teething. If they are not taught what not to chew, then they carry it into adulthood," said Mr Yeo. The solution is to catch the dog in the act and startle it with a stern "no", or isolate the dog in a darkened room until it calms down.

The next step is to focus the dog's chewing tendencies on "allowable objects" like chew toys, Mr Yeo added.

Dog trainer Harry Quek said changing its diet would help as a dog chews or bites out of boredom or nutritional deficiency.

Both AVA and SPCA said reports of animal abuse are on the rise due to greater public awareness. SPCA received 864 reports last year, a 13-per-cent increase compared to 2008, while AVA received 383 reports last year - six more than in 2008.

Last year, the AVA took action on four cases of animal cruelty and four more this year. Just last month, the AVA fined a rabbit owner $150 for keeping it "poorly".

In March, AVA's deputy director of risk communication Wong Hon Mun told MediaCorp it was difficult to prosecute animal abusers as those who report the cases do not provide enough evidence.

MELBOURNE (AFP) - - A young Australian Friday held an emotional TV reunion with her dog Muffy, who went missing nine years ago before reappearing filthy and flea-bitten 2,000 kilometres (1,250 miles) away.

Chloe Rushby, now 17, who was given the mongrel on her eighth birthday, stroked and hugged the white-haired Muffy in a meeting shown live by Channel 10's satirical "The 7pm Project."

"Hey Muffy, hey girl," Rushby said, before admitting she was overcome with emotion. "I'm shaking," she added.

Rushby was flown from the eastern Gold Coast region to Melbourne by Channel 10 after Muffy's astonishing reappearance in an unkempt suburban back yard, where she was sleeping on a piece of cardboard.

The teenager's mother Natalie Lampard said that before the disappearance, her daughter and the dog were "pretty much inseparable."

"Just how she got down to Melbourne I guess is a mystery that will never be answered, but she won't be sleeping out in the yard in the middle of winter ever again," Lampard said.

The dog, who was identified by an embedded microchip, was set to be flown back to the eastern Gold Coast in air-conditioned luxury courtesy of specialist transport service Jet Pets.

Muffy will receive her own pet travel consultant, enjoy door-to-door transfers and the comforts of a luxury kennel and doggy transit lounge, all free of charge.

"They are big supporters of the RSPCA and they donated the flights," the RSPCA spokesman said. "For Muffy, they are more than happy to do it."

Brushing your cat's or dog's teeth is simple after you've had a few practice sessions. Try to do this every day to promote healthy teeth and gums.

1.)Have a veterinarian check your pet's teeth before you start a tooth-brushing program. If your pet has gum disease or damaged teeth, the process will be painful and he will associate pain with tooth brushing. He may even bite you.

2.) Get your cat or dog used to your looking into his mouth. After each time you do so, reward him with a treat or praise.

3.) Buy a pet dental kit, including toothpaste (made for dogs and cats) and a toothbrush, at a pet store or from your vet. Follow the kit's instructions for use. Research alternatives, such as a finger toothbrush, if your pet refuses to let you brush his teeth with a toothbrush. Ask your veterinarian for suggestions.

4.)Place your cat or dog on a comfortable surface while brushing his teeth.

5.) In general, try to use minimal restraint on your pet while brushing'especially if it's a cat. However, it may be easier to handle an especially reluctant cat by wrapping him in a towel to keep him from scratching or trying to escape.

6.) Brush your cat's or dog's teeth with a gentle, massaging motion.

7.)Reward your cat or dog with a tartar-control treat after the procedure.

#Starting at age 3, bring your dog or cat to the veterinarian for an annual teeth cleaning.

#Try to brush as part of daily quality time with your pet. He will come to associate tooth brushing with affection and praise.

Melmhlaka:Fluoride, an ingredient in most human toothpastes can be harmful to dogs. They'll prefer the meat or chicken flavored ones anyway. I can't get my Rottie to enjoy her tooth brushing at all no matter how many treats or how much praise I give. Some dogs are just dirty!

How to Clean a Dog's Ears

Dogs need to have their ears cleaned just like humans do, but certain precautions need to be taken so that no infections follow as a result. If you want to start cleaning your dog's ear yourself instead of taking it to a grooming expert, read on for some easy-to-follow instructions.

1.)Use an ear wash formulated for ear cleaning. It's important to never use undiluted peroxide on your pet's ears as it may cause burning.

2.) Soak a cotton ball thoroughly in the ear wash. Squeeze out excess ear wash.

3.) Place the cotton ball in your dog's ear and gently rub up and down.

4.) Allow your dog to shake off excess moisture. This is important for preventing ear infections.

5.) Soak the tip of a cotton swab in the ear wash and run it along the nooks and crannies of your dog's ears.

6.) Avoid putting the swab down your dog's ear canal; leave this type of cleaning to the veterinary medical staff.

Tips and Warnings:

#
Never use pure undiluted peroxide on your pet. The peroxide can harm your dog!
#
If your dog has chronic ear infections, consult a veterinarian. Chronic ear infections could be a sign of allergies or other problems.

If the ear canal looks abnormal, clean only the outside and consult a vet.

You should always use an ear powder after cleaning the ears. The ear powder helps dry the inside of the ear, thus possibly stopping ear and/or yeast infection of the ear. The ear is a very typical place for a yeast infection in a dog.

I always do my dog's ears in the shower after I bathe her. The warmth and moister soften the wax. This improves the effectiveness of the ear cleaning product and less qtip hassle is needed. Also, cleanup is a breeze!

Dachshunds were originally bred in Germany to be courageous, tough and persistent in order to hunt badgers and also foxes and rabbits. Their small size and short legs enabled them to dig foxes, badgers, and rabbits out of their dens. Dachshund, means "Badger Dog". Dachshunds were originally larger than seen today but were bred to be smaller towards the end of the 19th century.

Things You’ll Need:

* Feed bowl
* water bowl
* collar
* dog bed
* Suitable toys

Step1
Grooming. Short haired Dachshunds will require only occasional grooming, long haired Dachshunds will require daily grooming.

A brush or grooming mitt will be needed to prevent the hair from becoming matted and to remove loose hairs. Long Haired dogs will require a stiff brush, whereas short haired dogs will require a soft brush.

Buddhist Dogs Prays For Wordly Desires

NAHA, Japan (AFP) - - Buddhists clasp their palms together to pray for enlightenment, but Conan, a chihuahua, appears to have more worldly motivations.

The dog has become a popular attraction at a Japanese temple after learning to imitate the worshippers around him.

"Conan started to pose in prayer like us whenever he wanted treats," said Joei Yoshikuni, a priest at Jigenin temple on the southern island of Okinawa.

"Clasping hands is a basic action of Buddhist prayer to show appreciation. He may be showing his thanks for treats and walks," he said.

Conan, a two-year-old male with long, black hair and a brown collar, sits next to Yoshikuni in front of the altar and looks right up at the statue of a Buddhist deity.

When the priest starts chanting and raises his clasped hands, Conan also raises his paws and joins them at the tip of his nose.

Visitors to the temple look on with curiosity.

"It's so funny that he does it," said Kazuko Oshiro, 71, who has frequented the temple for more than 25 years.

"He gets angry when somebody else sits on his favourite spot. He must be thinking that it's his special place," Oshiro said.

Conan, originally a temple pet, has become so popular that people come in to take pictures almost every week, the priest said.

Yoshikuni estimated that the temple receives 30 percent more visitors, especially young tourists, than it would otherwise.

"I'm glad that people feel more comfortable visiting the temple because of Conan," he said as he jokingly joined his hands and bowed to the dog.
